I began seriously studying wine after being humiliated at a restaurant meeting in my early server days. I couldn’t describe a Silvaner. Ok ok. I didn’t know the difference between an unoaked Chardonnay and a… well, a Malbec. I routinely spilled wine on people while decanting. I thought Paul Hobbs was a basketball player. But come on. It was the early 2000s and I was high on Red Bull most of the time. Unexpectedly, as I made my way through countless bottles and books, I fell madly in love with wine. After serving as Wine Director of one of San Diego’s most esteemed restaurants, I am now studying for the Advanced Sommelier Examination with the Court of Masters while growing a fetus in my belly, raising a four year old daughter and 30-something husband, and trying to remember whether I turned off the curling iron.
